Sustainability

Port Milwaukee is committed to being good stewards of the environment and is mindful of the impact its operation has on the Port and surrounding community. We are dedicated to minimizing any adverse environmental impacts to our daily operations. We continually strive to do our part in positively contributing to the City of Milwaukee’s Climate and Equity plan of reducing community greenhouse gas emissions 45% by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Current initiatives contributing to our sustainability efforts include:

  • Home to the City of Milwaukee’s only Wind Turbine providing clean electricity to power all of Port Milwaukee’s Administration Building needs.
  • Voluntary participation to the maritime industry’s Green Marine program.  A program aimed at strengthening the marine industry’s environmental performance.
  • Offering an incentive program, StewardSHIP, with discounts on docking fees to shipping lines that have implemented emission reduction measures and other environmental improvements to their vessels.

We will continue to build on these initiatives as we progress on our sustainability journey. Check back for future updates and new programs as we advance in these efforts.
