Port Milwaukee Wins Top Honors for Communications From the American Association of Port Authorities

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) announced this week that Port Milwaukee earned its 2019 Overall Award of Communications Excellence. The honor is based on Port Milwaukee’s “exemplary communications projects and programs” among ports with marketing budgets of less than $300,000 annually.

“The Communications Awards Program judges told us that this year’s entries set a new, higher standard of excellence than ever before,” said Kurt Nagle, AAPA’s president and CEO. “This competition helps our member ports by rewarding strategic communications through peer-reviewed analyses of their programs and projects, and by showcasing best practices and lessons learned.”

Both the Port of San Diego and Port of New Orleans won Overall Excellence awards among ports with larger marketing budgets.

“Port Milwaukee does significant work to promote trade and commerce in this region,” Port Milwaukee Director Adam Schlicht said. “We have prioritized our marketing efforts over the past year, and I am particularly proud of our new website, www.portmilwaukee.com. We are increasing awareness of the value Port Milwaukee brings to the transportation sector and to the people of Milwaukee.”

AAPA represents 130 leading seaports in the Western Hemisphere and is recognized as the “unified voice of seaports in the Americas.” Overall Award of Communications Excellence winners will receive their trophy in a special awards presentation at the 108th AAPA Convention and Expo, being held Oct. 13-16 in Norfolk, Va.

Port Milwaukee is an economic entity of City government governed by the seven-member Board of Harbor Commissioners, a panel appointed by Mayor Tom Barrett and confirmed by the Common Council. It administers operations on the 467 acres that make up the Port. It promotes shipping and commerce throughout the region by providing access to domestic and international ships, rail, and over-the-road transportation.
